See-Through Screens are Here: Samsung Shows Off New Clear MicroLED Displays

Before the official start of CES 2024, Samsung made a splash with its display announcements. Among the more exciting was a new transparent MicroLED screen that actually lets you see through to the other side. These see-through screens could change how we use displays in the future.

Samsung is no stranger to MicroLED technology. They currently use microLEDs, which are even tinier than a hair, in their smart TVs. Each little LED can turn fully on or off to show colors and blacks. This makes for great picture quality with deep blacks and wide viewing angles.

Now Samsung has figured out how to make MicroLED screens clear like glass. They fitted the display with a very small chip. Special manufacturing ensures there are no seem or lines where light bends. The end result is a display you can see right through!

Unfortunately, Samsung didn’t share many details. We don’t know when these see-through MicroLEDs will hit stores or how much they might cost. Samsung’s current non-clear MicroLED TVs are very expensive, with models over $150,000. So don’t expect these new transparent screens to be cheap anytime soon.

Only time will tell what Samsung has in mind for clear displays. But one thing is clear – see-through screens could open up exciting new possibilities for how we use displays in the future. Samsung looks to be leading the way as always with innovative new screen tech. We can’t wait to see more at CES 2024!
