Google Stops Fake Bard Downloads From Stealing User Info

Google has filed a lawsuit to stop scammers from fooling people into downloading a fake version of its AI called Bard. Some bad guys in Vietnam made social media pages and ads saying users could get the new Bard app. But the download actually gives them malware instead.

Malware is software that can harm your computer. It lets the scammers steal things like your Facebook login without permission. The scam pages pretend to offer the latest special test version of Bard. But really, the scammers just want to hack into people’s accounts after they download.

Google’s real Bard is only online at bard.google.com for everyone to use freely. The company has already asked social media sites to remove 300 scam ads and pages. But now they are suing the scammers directly in California. This could stop the scammers from making new scam websites and apps too.

Similar to cryptocurrency scams, the bad guys take advantage when new technologies are exciting. Even though Bard is free, the scammers act like users need the special download version to access it. Now the lawsuit aims to identify the scammers and prevent further damage. It shows how Google wants to protect users from deception around its artificial intelligence projects.
