Meta Launches Threads for Web

Many, including you, might have missed the web version of Threads. Instagram head, Adam Mosseri himself confirmed on Thursday that it was now live for all users.

Threads, which is essentially Instagram’s standalone messaging app has so far only been available as a mobile app. This meant people could not access it through browsers on their laptops and desktops. Folks had complained about this limitation for a long time now.

Some workarounds existed like manually typing in a profile URL. But folks could not browse feeds, post updates or even log into the app on browsers. Understandably, the lack of a web version frustrated many users.

Meta had been promising they were working on the long awaited web version. But it took them quite a while. Now that it’s here, Threads users can finally connect with friends from anywhere using just a browser on any device.

The timing of this launch is interesting as engagement on Threads had dropped quite a bit after the initial buzz died down. A web version makes the app much more accessible and usable whenever folks are on their desktop computers too.

It will be interesting to see what new features are added next to Threads. Things like hashtag and content search can help people discover more easily. Meta should also look at syncing Instagram DMs like Mosseri suggested. Overall, the web launch is a welcome and needed update for Threads.
