Chat with Bard in your Messages app

Bard, Google’s AI helper, could soon join your text conversations. Developers found signs that Bard may be added to the Messages app. This could let you chat directly with Google’s robot friend!

What does Bard do? Bard can help in a few ways. It can help write texts for you. Maybe you need to call your boss sick or want dinner ideas – Bard can assist. Bard is also good at translating between languages. And it can try to identify what’s in the photos you send. Bard learns from your location and past messages. That helps it give better answers to your needs.

To use Bard, you must be 18 years old or older. Chats with Bard in Messages won’t be private like messages with your contacts. Google says it keeps chat histories for 18 months. They use the data to improve Bard, but nothing is tied to your account after 3 years. Your chats are only looked at by Google, not by other users. You can always delete your chat history with Bard if you want.

Right now, this feature only exists in test versions of Messages. A user found hints of it by modifying their Messages app. Google wants Bard to be helpful, not harmful. They warn not to say anything to Bard you wouldn’t want others to see. Bard’s assistance in Messages could be super handy – stay tuned for when it may arrive for everyone!

In summary, it looks like the new “Chat with Bard” feature could make Messages even better.
