It’s hard to believe, but Google Chrome will have been around for 15 years this month. To celebrate this big milestone, Google is giving the browser a makeover and some cool new tools in the latest update.
Google Chrome is getting a fresh new style inspired by Material You, Google’s design approach. The icons will be more readable and match the different colored tabs and toolbar better. The three-dot menu in the top right corner is also changing – it will have quick access to extensions, translation, passwords and more so you can find what you need faster. These style updates should be ready in the next few weeks.
The Chrome Web Store, where you get extensions, is receiving a design refresh too. It will have a clean Modern look to make discovering great extensions easier. Plus, new categories like AI tools, editor picks, and suggestions just for you. This updated store is ready to preview now if you want to check it out early.
New safety features are coming to help you browse privately and risk-free. Google already launched “Safety Check” last month to alert you if any installed extensions are removed for being malware or violating policies. Now Safety Check will include extensions still in the store too. Additionally, Google Safe Browsing is upgraded to check for dangerous sites in real-time instead of every 30-60 minutes, blocking threats faster.
With these changes, Google aims to make Chrome simpler to use, quicker to navigate and safer overall. Especially the Safe Browsing real-time checks, which Google estimates will cut malware and phishing by 25%!
