Galaxy Phones Can Get Missing Updates Again Thanks to a Fix

It is important to note that Google Play System Updates (GPSU) are not the same as updates to the Google Play Services app or the Play Store app. It’s likely you didn’t even know these updates existed, and we wouldn’t blame you if you hadn’t noticed that your Samsung Galaxy smartphone hasn’t received them for quite some time. Thankfully, whatever the issue may have been, it now appears that it has been resolved, and your Galaxy smartphone can be updated properly once again.

Many Galaxy smartphones, like the S23, S22, and Z Fold 5 have started getting GPSU again. This allows them to install the November 2023 update which they were missing before. While some phones couldn’t download it the first time, they could after a few tries. This solves a problem where Galaxy devices were stuck on the older May 2023 update for months.

In 2022, phones also got stuck on the July update before a fix in January 2023. A similar cycle happened this year, with the issue cropping up in the second half and then getting fixed in January 2024. Neither Samsung or Google have said what caused phones to stop installing the latest updates.

If your Galaxy phone has an update older than November 2023 listed, keep checking to see if you can now download the missing one. Go to Settings, Security and Privacy, then Updates to look. Getting phones updated properly will help ensure security and stability long-term. It’s great Galaxy users won’t have to miss out on important updates anymore thanks to this fix.
