ChatGPT Wants to Help You on Android Too!

ChatGPT Wants to Help You on Android Too!

While Google Assistant is the default assistant app on Android smartphones, you can also use other apps with the same functionality. Currently, ChatGPT is working on Android assistant support as LLMs take over. ChatGPT is making changes so it can be your helper on Android devices just like Google Assistant.

ChatGPT is adding new features to its app that will allow it to take the place of Google Assistant when you long press the home or power button on your phone. It will also work when you swipe up from the bottom of the screen. This will let ChatGPT answer questions and give you information just by talking to your phone or tablet.

Other apps like Cortana from Microsoft and Alexa from Amazon can already do this. The codes and activitiesChatGPT developers recently added show they are working to make ChatGPT an options too. Things like an “assistant interaction service” file and a “supportsAssist” tag in the app code point to this new feature. But it’s not fully ready yet. More work needs to be done before we can use ChatGPT as our Android helper.

It’s not clear when exactly this will be available or if there will be a cost to use all of ChatGPT’s Android features. OpenAI currently offers extra abilities in ChatGPT through a paid “Plus” subscription. Some of the code mentions linking the ability to add a ChatGPT option to the Android Quick Settings menu through a Plus plan. So a subscription may be required for all features.

We’ll have to wait and see how ChatGPT’s Android assistant support develops. But it’s exciting to think well be able to get ChatGPT’s friendly help whether using our phones or chatting online! Keep an eye on 9to5Google for more updates.
