Until now, Apple has topped the list of top 10 smartphones shipped this year. A technology research company called Omdia tracks phone shipments with their Smartphone Model Market Tracker. According to them, the iPhone 14 Pro Max, which is Apple’s most expensive phone in their 14 series, was shipped more than any other smartphone worldwide in the first half of 2023. The iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 13 came in second and third place.
In fact, Apple phones took up five out of the top ten spots for most phones shipped so far this year. Omdia says Apple shipped over 26 million units of just the iPhone 14 Pro alone. Even the regular iPhone 13 shipped about 15.5 million units in the first six months.
Samsung was able to get the remaining five spots on the list for Android phones. Their Galaxy A14 did the best, coming in at number five with shipments of 12.4 million phones. Last year during the same time, Samsung’s Galaxy A13 came in third with over 16 million shipments. So both their shipments and rankings dropped compared to the first half of 2022.
Two cheaper phones from Chinese company Xiaomi called Redmi models also made the top 10 list last year but are missing this year. Overall, smartphone shipments have decreased a bit – the top-selling iPhone 14 Pro Max shipped over 7 million fewer phones than last year’s best-selling iPhone 13, which shipped around 33.7 million units in total in the first half of 2022.
That said, Apple completely dominated smartphone shipments in the first six months of 2023 according to the latest data, with their premium iPhone 14 models vastly outselling the competition from Samsung and other Android manufacturers. It will be interesting to see if Apple can maintain this lead for the rest of the year!
