The CEO of Warner Bros. Games, JB Perrette, spoke at the Morgan Stanley 2024 Technology, Media, & Telecom Conference on March 4, 2024. According to Perrette, the company is taking a new direction. Warner Bros. plans to focus more on creating free mobile games and keep players coming back for more. This will be different from their usual single-player games for consoles. So we can expect Warner Bros. to release a lot of new mobile games soon.
Why the Change?
Some of Warner Bros’ recent games, like Suicide Squad, did not do as well as they had hoped. This made them think about how to make more stable money. Warner Bros. knows that people play lots of free games on phones that can be updated all the time. Games like this make ongoing money through optional in-app purchases. So now Warner Bros. will focus on making these kinds of “live service” games for phones and tablets.
What Can We Expect?
Look for mobile games based on popular Warner Bros. franchises like Batman, Harry Potter, Mortal Kombat, and more. The games will be free to download and play. But players can choose to buy extra items if they want. Warner Bros. already has mobile games like Injustice and Mortal Kombat Mobile that show they can create fun phone games. With the new focus, many more are coming in the next couple of years.
