Switching Phone Calls to Video Just Got Easier With Google

Google wants Google Meet to be a bigger part of how we talk on our phones every day. While it started as a tool for work, many people now use it for one-on-one video chats too. Google is testing a new feature that could make video calling even more simple and convenient.

Did you know iPhone users can easily start a video call right from the phone app? It’s called FaceTime. Now Android users may soon have a similar option using Google Meet.

In the Google Phone app, some users are seeing a new “Video call” button during regular calls. Tapping it launches a Google Meet video call to the same person. Your voice call stays active too.

If the other person doesn’t have the Google Meet app, you can invite them to use it for video chatting right from the phone app.

This feature is currently in beta testing on Pixel phones only. Not everyone sees it yet. But the fact that Google is testing it means they may roll it out to more Android phones soon.

Switching effortlessly between a voice call and video call could increase Google Meet usage. While apps like WhatsApp are popular for video calls now, this integration into the Phone app gives Meet a competitive edge. Only time will tell if users adopt it over their current habits.

The new feature promises a Facetime-like experience on Android. With just one tap, Google Meet could become a bigger part of everyday mobile communications.
