Seven Nigerian Tech Whizkids Selected for $100k Global Pitch Fest

Great news from Nigeria! Seven startups from our country have made it to this year’s TechCrunch Startup Battlefield pitch competition. This competition highlights the best 200 young startups from all over the world, spanning various industries. These startups will vie for the coveted $100,000 prize without giving up any equity. Exciting times ahead for the Nigerian tech scene!

The seven Nigerian startups selected are:

  • Famasi Africa: Founded in 2020, Famasi Africa operates an online pharmacy platform that allows customers to conveniently order and refill medications from connected brick-and-mortar pharmacies. Using their dashboard, users can track orders, access information from medical experts, and get personalized support for using their medications properly.
  • Akowe: Ayodeji Agboola launched Akowe in 2020 to provide a blockchain-backed solution for digitally issuing and verifying academic records. Their web and mobile apps allow institutions to issue certificates at scale, while individuals can upload and verify their credentials online for jobs or further education. Employers can also verify resumes.
  • Bus54: Bus54 aggregates intercity bus transportation across Africa on one platform. Passengers can search, compare, and book journeys online with multiple operators. The mobility tech company also gives operators tools to efficiently manage ticket sales and end-to-end operations from their portal.
  • Flowmono: Launched in 2021, Flowmono provides SaaS APIs and tools to help organizations digitize document workflows like signing, sharing, and storing contracts, loan approvals, expense reports, and more. Their paperless processes save time, money, and the environment.
  • Foris Labs: Founded by John Onuigbo in 2020, Foris Labs developed a 3D virtual science lab app. Through gamified simulations, students of any age can conduct realistic hands-on experiments from any location on their phones or tablets.
  • Genesis360: Genesis360 leverages fintech to give food retail shop customers affordable payment installment plans. This enables more people to access groceries and tackle food insecurity problems across African cities.
  • Alusoft: Alusoft’s educational platform streamlines school management activities. Their flagship EduPorch product handles tasks like online student profiles, fee payments, report cards and engagement between stakeholders in one integrated tool.

The startups will get world-class pitching training. Then they will showcase their innovative ideas on the global TechCrunch stage to top investors, seeking life-changing funding. This unique opportunity can take these young Nigerian entrepreneurs further in solving local problems with technology. We wish them the very best!
