Recycling Old Windmill Blades into Amazing Park Furniture

In public spaces across the country, Canvus makes beautiful park benches, planters, and picnic tables from retired wind turbine blades. Canvus collects the large blades after windmills are no longer used. They cut the blades into pieces and turn them into fun seating for everyone to enjoy outdoors.

Canvus gets the old blades from big windmill companies. Soon there will be thousands of extra blades each year that need a new purpose. So Canvus gives them a second life. Towns send Canvus a wish list of the benches and tables they want. Then donors pick which ones to sponsor. Donors might sponsor in memory of a loved one or to help their community. Each item has a special code people can scan to learn more about the sponsor.

The small town of Westerville, Ohio picked nine Canvus items for a bike and walking trail. Four have sponsors already. One is a bench/planter combo made from recycled tires and shoes. It costs $3,781 to sponsor. If your town wants Canvus creations too, they add them to a wish list. Sponsors are the only way to get the windmill furniture for public spaces. You can’t buy them yourself for your yard.

Workers at the Canvus factory cut the windmill blades safely with special saws. They cover any sharp edges with thick paint. The pieces are turned into long-lasting benches, planters, and tables. Old shoes, tires, and other recycled materials add to the designs. Canvus aims to reuse 10,000 to 15,000 blades per year as they get more orders. Their unique creations let old windmills live on in communities across the country.
