Plex Adds Built-In Social Features

Plex Adds Built-In Social Features

Plex has always been one of the best ways to access media from anywhere. In addition to aggregating streaming content, it lets you watch trailers, rate content, add items to a watchlist, and access content hosted by friends. Now they’ve made it even better by adding built-in social features.

Plex just launched a new way for users to connect called “Discover Together”. It adds social media-like features directly into the Plex app. This allows you to see what your friends are watching, leave comments, and find new things to watch based on their opinions.

There are three main social aspects available in Discover Together:

Profiles – You can create a profile that shows info like your avatar, bio, location and stats of what you’ve watched. You control who can see it.

Friends – Find people you know or add new friends. Then check out their profiles to see what they’re watching or want to watch.

Activity – See a feed of what your friends are doing on Plex like what shows or movies they’re watching, rating or adding to their lists. You can also leave comments on their activity posts.

Your friend’s activity will also appear on content pages. For example, if a friend watches a movie using Plex, you’ll see they watched it and their rating when you look at that movie too.

The new social features work across all devices with Plex and you don’t need a Plex Pass subscription or private media server to use them. Plex Discover Together is rolling out now to better connect users and help you find more great media to enjoy.
