iPhone 15 USB-C Cable Leak: The Good and Not-So-Good Details

iPhone 15 USB-C Cable Leak The Good and Not-So-Good Details

A few days ago, photos of Apple’s new braided USB-C cables got leaked. Now, Apple’s researcher, Majin Bu has leaked additional details about the cord. Apparently, Apple’s iPhone 15 USB-C cable will stretch 1.6 meters, longer than the 1-meter USB-C-to-Lightning cable it supplies with the iPhone 14.

According to the researcher, Apple will stick with USB 2.0 data transfer speeds like the lightning port. USB 2.0 transfer speeds are limited to 480Mbps, so the new iPhones won’t have faster data transmission speeds compared to the current series. However, the Pro models may support more advanced transfer protocols.

The leaked details reveal both positive and negative news. Positively, the durable cables are longer and won’t have the restrictive MFi authentication. But data speeds won’t improve for the standard models.

There is still hope though. Top analysts predict the high-end iPhones will offer Thunderbolt or USB 3.2 speeds. Additionally, the USB-C standard allows for future speed upgrades.

So while the base cable specs underwhelm, Apple may have faster transfers and future-proofing up their sleeve. Stay tuned for how the final iPhone 15 models shape up later this year!
