Google Working on Fix for Android 14 Storage Bug on Pixels

In a more detailed response on Sunday evening, Google explained how it’s working on a fix and possible data recovery options for Pixel devices with “Issues accessing storage after updating to Android 14“. The problem impacts the Pixel 6 and newer phones that have multiple users set up in addition to the main account.

Specifically, the issue can prevent the primary user from accessing photos, videos, and other media files. In some cases, it repeatedly reboots the phone with an error message. Thankfully, Google has already rolled out an update to prevent more devices from being affected.

For Pixel owners currently locked out of their storage, Google said a software update is coming soon. This will repair the bug without needing to factory reset the phone. Engineers are also exploring ways to recover data for those stuck in a reboot loop after accepting the reset prompt.

In the meantime, Google recommends holding off on adding extra user profiles until the fix arrives. They apologized for the headaches caused. If your Pixel has been updated to Android 14 and is acting up, check for the latest Play system update as a temporary workaround. Stay tuned here for news on when Google releases the proper storage access patch. With any luck, this bug will be squashed soon for good!
