Google Wallet May Soon Open the Door to Apple Passes

The Google Wallet app is the perfect tool for storing tickets and cards. However, it does not have the same level of support as Apple Wallet since it is not as widely used as Apple Wallet. But that could change with a new Google Wallet update.

Reports say the latest Google Wallet version might allow users to import tickets saved in Apple’s special “.pkpass” file format. This format is what Apple Wallet uses to save all kinds of passes and tickets on iPhones. Being able to read these files would let Google Wallet users access passes made for Apple devices.

Instead of separate digital tickets, Android and iPhone owners could now easily share passes between the two popular mobile wallets. Plus, Google Wallet would gain compatibility with the many apps and services that already distribute passes in the “.pkpass” format to iPhones.

One user testing the new Google Wallet found they could import “.pkpass” files successfully. However, others need more time for the feature to fully rollout. If implemented properly, cross-platform pass support would be a big advantage for Google Wallet users everywhere.

Stay tuned for official news on if Google does fully enable “.pkpass” file importing soon. This one change could help Google Wallet challenge Apple Wallet’s leadership by giving customers a simple way to access tickets across both major mobile platforms.
