After Apple blocked Fortnite from iOS last week, they changed their mind for Europe. Apple said Epic Games can publish apps on iPhones in Europe again. This means Fortnite and the Epic Games Store might come back to iPhones there soon!
A new European law called the Digital Markets Act lets apps use other stores besides the App Store. Epic Games likes this law because it means Apple can’t control everything on iPhones. But earlier this week, Apple kicked Epic off their developer program too.
The European Union was not happy about that. They want to check that Apple isn’t being unfair. Then Apple said, Okay, Epic can rejoin their program for Europe. Epic posted that this “sends a strong signal” that Europe will make big tech companies like Apple play fair.
Epic and Apple have been fighting for a long time over how apps make money. Apple takes 30% of payments in apps, which Epic thinks is too much. But there can be other app stores in Europe, so Apple has less power over apps.
