Patreon Creators Gain Moderation Help from Community Members

The Patreon community is taking a page from Reddit’s book. With the platform’s expansion, podcasters, artists, writers, and other creators will be able to assign community members as moderators. This will help creators manage their growing communities better.

Previously on Patreon, creators could only assign “teammates” to help manage their community. Now creators can choose other members to be moderators. As moderators, community members can help enforce the specific rules creators set for their space. They can help keep discussions respectful and make sure people follow guidelines like no spoilers.

Having more moderators gives creators more flexibility. Creators are busy making their content. Moderators can take some weight off by handling small issues. It also puts creators in full control of what their community is about.

Patreon is also expanding community chats and free access. Chats, which are like Discord, used to only be on mobile for paying supporters. Now anyone can join chats on a desktop too. In the future, even unpaid fans may get access. Creators will also get new tools for chats, like recorded voice messages.

These changes come as Patreon builds out more ways for fans and creators to connect. In the past, Patreon focused only on subscriptions. Now it offers products, chat, and other free access too. Patreon seems to be becoming a full-service home for creators and their fans online. With moderators and chat growing, creators have more ways to engage audiences while keeping their communities welcoming.
