Google Meet Adds Support for 1080p Video Quality in Group Calls

Google Meet Adds Support for 1080p Video Quality in Group Calls

Workspace subscribers will now be able to stream 1080p-quality webcam feeds during group calls. At first, the high-quality video feature was only available for one-on-one sessions. Now, three or more people can join in and all see each other clearly on group calls online.

During a group call, anyone with a 1080p webcam or higher will get a prompt asking if they want to turn on the sharp video quality. If they say yes, a 1080p icon will show up to let them know it’s on. Other people in the meeting can see the crisp video too if the webcam user is “pinned” so everyone can see them best. Or people can see the high quality of their screen is big enough.

The settings to control sending and receiving high-quality video are found under the “Video” options on Google Meet’s website. Meet will automatically adjust the quality if the internet connection gets slow.

This new feature is available now for Google Workspace customers like businesses, schools and other organizations. Individual Google accounts don’t get it yet. To use 1080p group calls, you need to pay for a Workspace plan like Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Essentials and more. Free personal Google accounts are still limited to sharp video for one-on-one calls only.
