In OpenAI’s ChatGPT app, a new Quick Settings shortcut has been added with a useful new UI that can be accessed from any app. This new shortcut makes it very easy to talk to ChatGPT without needing to leave the app you are using.
When you tap the new Quick Settings tile, a transparent overlay screen will appear on top of your current app. On this overlay, you will see a white circle that spins to show that ChatGPT is getting ready. It usually only takes a few seconds before you can start talking. Your question will be sent automatically when you finish speaking or tap the circle.
The first time you use the overlay, it will ask you to pick a voice for ChatGPT to use. You can also try talking to ChatGPT directly in the app. But from then on, the transparent overlay is what you’ll see every time you want a quick chat without leaving your app.
This new Quick Settings shortcut is included in versions 1.2024.017 and 1.2024.018 of the ChatGPT Android app. These latest updates are rolling out slowly through the beta program. However, not everyone getting the update will see the new overlay screen yet – it seems to be a limited release for now.
The ChatGPT app is working on becoming the default assistant on Android instead of Google Assistant. Adding this Quick Settings shortcut makes ChatGPT much more accessible anywhere on your phone as you use different apps.
