Your Smartwatch Just Got Handier: New Features Coming to Wear OS

A boarding pass feature was added to Google’s Wear OS platform back in January. Currently, the company is rolling out two more features to give your smartwatch even more functionality. Google has announced that Wear OS smartwatches will now be able to access more passes from your wrist and also give transit directions right on your watch.

Your Smartwatch Can Hold More Than Boarding Passes

Google is expanding the passes feature on Wear OS. Before, smartwatches running Wear OS could only show airline boarding passes. Now, your watch can store and display other useful passes too. Things like event tickets, gym memberships, loyalty cards and other cards saved in your Google Wallet can all be easily accessed from your wrist. No more digging through your phone to find that ticket or coupon!

Transit Directions at a Glance

Google Maps is also getting updated for Wear OS. You’ll soon be able to see public transit directions on your smartwatch without taking your phone out. Just raise your wrist and the map will show you which train, bus or other transportation to take. It will even give you the departure times and use the watch’s compass to guide you with arrows. No more squinting at tiny maps – get where you’re going directly from your watch.

Less Time on Your Phone

These new features aim to cut down on phone usage by putting more capabilities onto your wrist. Managing passes and getting around town can now be handled quickly from your watch. Whether you want to save time or simply use your phone less, the added functionality of Wear OS should help accomplish that.
