The report says that over 320 million smartphones were shipped worldwide in Q4 2023. This is 8% more than the same time last year. Apple shipped the most phones of any company. They shipped 24% of all smartphones worldwide that quarter. Samsung usually ships the most but they came in second place this time, shipping 17% of phones.
This is the first time Apple has been number one. Usually Samsung ships more phones than any other company each quarter. But Apple’s new iPhone 15 models were very popular. So many people bought them that Apple was able to ship more phones than Samsung.
The report says Apple was successful because of the new iPhone 15 phones. But the company will need to find new customers to keep growing. Most people already have a recent iPhone so they may not upgrade as often. And other companies like Huawei are getting more popular in China, which is a big market for phones.
