Magic Editor to Get Advanced New Tools?

Last month, Google released its Magic Editor tool alongside the Pixel 8 series, bringing impressive and intuitive editing features. A few of these features include moving people and objects around, resizing elements, and more. Now, evidence has been found that suggests Magic Editor could get even more powerful updates in the future.

Developers found hidden code in the Google Photos app that talks about Magic Editor. The code says Magic Editor currently cannot do some edits based on certain words entered. It also won’t generate images with private information. This hints that typing prompts may control Magic Editor soon.

Prompts could let you generate new backgrounds, and objects, or expand photo borders just by typing instructions. For example, you could say “Move the dog to the left and add trees outside the window”. Things like that would be a lot quicker than editing manually.

While not confirmed, the code also makes us wonder if prompts will let Magic Editor completely transform photos automatically. Imagine typing “Change the sky to sunset and add a boat on the lake” to edit with just words. Top camera phones are developing ways to generate realistic images from text too. So Google likely wants to stay competitive with similar tools.

Right now this is just speculation since nothing else was found about prompts. There’s a chance the feature gets cancelled before release. However, advanced AI is the future of editing. Will Magic Editor blow us away with new prompt powers down the road? Only time will tell what new tricks are in store!
