Google Chrome Gets Clever With AI

The latest version of Google Chrome, called Chrome 121, has some new tricks that are powered by artificial intelligence. It can now automatically organize your tabs into groups and even lets you design custom themes for the new tab page.

The Tab Organizer uses AI to look at the tabs you have open and suggest ways to gather similar ones together. For example, if you have tabs for researching a vacation, shopping for items, and reading news articles all open, it may suggest a “Trip Planning” group. You can choose to accept the suggested grouping or not. There is also a thumbs up and down button so you can help Chrome get better at this over time.

The theme creator takes advantage of the same kind of AI that makes wallpapers on Pixel phones. It allows you to design a custom look and feel for the blank page that opens when you start Chrome. You enter things like the subject, mood, style, and colors you want. The AI then quickly generates different theme options for you to choose from. It can make themes inspired by nature, with calming colors, or funky animated designs. Best of all, you can save your favorite themes to use anytime.

In the next update, Chrome will add a helpful writing assistant too. When typing in text boxes, you’ll be able to right click and get suggestions to make writing easier. You can customize things like the tone and length before adding the sample text.

These new AI features are still in development, so chrome may tweak how they work. But they are a clever way to use machine learning to solve problems users face every day with lots of tabs and online tasks. Stay tuned for more ways Google hopes to enhance the browsing experience with artificial intelligence throughout 2024!
