Earlier today, Spotify announced an updated “Basic” streaming plan for the United States. With the new plan, you get all the benefits of a Premium plan, but without the monthly audiobook listening time. The Basic plan costs $10.99 per month.
The Basic plan is for people who don’t use the 15 hours of audiobooks included with Premium. Spotify recently raised Premium to $11.99, which may help cover rising audiobook costs. A higher “Supremium” plan with HD audio may also come at over $15 per month.
Spotify hopes the $10.99 Basic plan attracts users who don’t want to pay $11.99 just for music and podcasts. It gives more choices after the Premium price hike. Spotify earned record profits last quarter and their next earnings update is in July.
The new Basic option keeps Spotify affordable for casual listeners. And more tiers could roll out to suit different budgets and audio preferences. Spotify aims to cater to all with simple plans for streaming unlimited tracks and podcasts.
