Hybrid vehicles are getting more popular in the United States. Many big car companies are now making more hybrid models. A hybrid uses both a gas engine and an electric motor. This saves on gas and is better for the environment.
Ford and Lincoln have six different hybrid vehicles you can choose from. The Jeep Wrangler and Chrysler Pacifica are available as hybrids too. Over a third of new Jeep Wranglers and almost a fifth of Pacificas sold now are hybrid versions. The company that owns Jeep and Chrysler said hybrids will be a big part of their lineup going forward.
Toyota is the top seller of hybrids, with 18 models from Toyota and their Lexus luxury brand. Hyundai and Kia offer seven hybrid options combined. General Motors only has one hybrid so far, a special Corvette, but they say more are coming.
Even with more options, it can still be hard to find certain hybrids at dealers right now. One dealer in Florida said he has no hybrids in stock, even though customers want them. Supply chain issues mean car companies can’t build them fast enough.
While electric vehicles are growing fast, a dealer thinks hybrids will remain popular until electric car charging is as widespread as gas stations. Hybrids use both gas and electricity, so they don’t need to be charged as often. They provide better gas mileage than gas-only cars and are more affordable than EVs for many. Overall, hybrids look like they will continue to get a boost in the United States from many major automakers.
