In a new five-year technology deal, Microsoft and African fintech firm Flutterwave are joining forces. They aim to create next-generation payment services using Microsoft Azure. This collaboration will not only boost Flutterwave’s payment infrastructure in Africa but also extend it globally.

This strategic alliance, as per a statement shared with TechCabal, will allow Flutterwave to cater to multinational corporations. It includes enabling payments for big names like Uber, Netflix, and Microsoft, demonstrating Azure’s integral role in ensuring a smooth, dependable, and secure payment journey. Flutterwave plans to integrate its offerings, such as Flutterwave for Business, Send by Flutterwave, Flutterwave Store, and Flutterwave for Fintech Platform, with Microsoft’s Azure Cloud Platform. The primary goal here is to facilitate payments to and from Africa, a move applauded by both parties.

Microsoft’s General Manager, Mike Gaal, highlights the partnership’s motivation stems from the support Azure offers to Flutterwave’s central operations. “Teaming up with Flutterwave takes us a step closer to achieving our mission to empower everyone and every organization globally,” says Gaal.

Flutterwave’s CEO, Olugbenga Agboola, acknowledges the crucial role of Microsoft in their journey so far. “As our high-volume payment processing needs grow, the resilience, reliability, and scalability of Microsoft Azure become vital. Therefore, deepening our collaboration with Microsoft is a logical step for us,” Agboola explains.

Gurbhej Dhillon, Flutterwave’s Chief Technology Officer (CTO), sees promising potential in this partnership. He believes it will help scale their platform and serve more merchants worldwide, particularly leveraging Azure OpenAI Service in the future.
