OpenAI Has Hired the Co-Founder of Pebble

In a secret project, Gabor Cselle, the former CEO and co-founder of the Twitter-like app Pebble, has joined OpenAI. According to LinkedIn, Cselle has been with OpenAI since October. He promised to share more about what he is working on in due time.

Cselle helped build and sell two other social media companies before starting Pebble. His first app, reMail, helped people easily send emails from their phones. It was bought by Google. His second app allowed advertisers to show ads directly on Twitter. Twitter later purchased this company.

For a few years, Cselle worked at Twitter helping improve things like the timeline of posts and the onboarding process for new users. In 2016, he went to Google to work on launching new apps through their startup program.

In 2022, Cselle teamed up with another tech leader to create Pebble. This app wanted to build a safer place for sharing messages than Twitter. For a little while, Pebble grew and some investors put money into it. But eventually, not enough people joined and it had to shut down.

Since May, Cselle has helped other startups through an accelerator program. This includes working on a quiz game that was popular for a time. Now he has joined OpenAI, known for researching artificial intelligence. It remains a secret what Cselle will work on there.
