Your Google Messages Profile Display Finally Works as It Should

We all have our favorite messaging apps, but if you have an Android phone, you likely use Google Messages. This app is not only well-functioning, but it also provides excellent support for RCS. After Google made a big push to get RCS into more hands, Apple is finally on board, so things can only improve.

Google continues to improve Messages with new features, like the recent double-tap function. Now, they’re rolling out another exciting update in their latest beta version (20241112_00_RC00) with two main improvements:

  1. Better Profile Display
  • Your Google profile name and picture will now show up exactly as you set them when chatting with others
  • While others can still change your name in their contacts, your profile picture will remain as you set it
  • You get three privacy options:
    • Show your profile to everyone you message
    • Show only to your contacts
    • Don’t show your profile to anyone
  1. New “Sending as” Feature
  • A new banner will appear during chats showing who you’re sending messages to as
  • This adds more clarity to your conversations, especially if you use multiple accounts

Currently, these features are only available to Google Messages beta users. If you’re interested in trying them out, you can join the beta program, but keep in mind that beta software might have some bugs or issues.

These updates show Google’s commitment to improving the Messages app, making it more user-friendly and feature-rich for Android users.
