In April, X (formerly Twitter) started letting iPhone users log in with passkeys. Now, they’re adding passkeys to Android phones too.
Passkeys help keep your X account safer. Instead of using a username and password that can get stolen, passkeys use your fingerprint or face to log in. Only the real you can unlock your phone and sign in. Not even X knows your passkey details.
Many big tech companies are adding passkeys now. Apple, Microsoft, Amazon, Google, PayPal, and more all let you log in with passkeys instead of passwords.
On X, passkeys could help if you used to get a security code by text message. Last year, X stopped letting free users get codes by text for extra security. Passkeys are now another option for them.
To set up a passkey on X:
- Open the app
- Tap “Your account”
- Go to “Settings and privacy”
- Pick “Security and account access”
- Choose “Security”
- Select “Passkey” under password options
- Hit “Add passkey” and follow the steps
With passkeys, crooks can’t steal your info even if your X account gets hacked. And only you can log into your account, keeping your tweets secure. X hopes this convinces more Android users to use their service now too.
