It’s just a matter of time before Android 15 launches, and we already know what new features it will have. There is, however, one significant potential addition: Pixel Satellite SOS.
Some people digging through the code of an Android 15 test version found that Google may add satellite communication. This could let Pixel users contact emergency services through the Messages app even without cell service. That sounds very helpful!
However, the code also said this feature might only be free for two years. After that, Google may start charging for it.
We made a poll asking people if they would pay for this satellite calling feature or not. So far over 2,300 people voted. 28% said yes they would pay, while 72% said no they would not pay for it.
We don’t know how much Google might charge though. The “two years” thing also might not be final – it could end up being longer or shorter.
Also, not all Pixels may support this satellite feature as special hardware is likely needed.
Android 15 should launch around August with the new Pixel 9 phones. We’ll have to wait and see if Google goes through with this satellite SOS plan. But would you spend extra each month to call for help from anywhere?
