With the introduction of T Life, T-Mobile rebranded its popular T-Mobile Tuesdays app earlier this year. T Life initially worked like T-Mobile Tuesdays, but after the latest update, you’ll find the T Life app and the T-Mobile app have essentially the same look and features. Both apps now have version 10.0, and the setup wizard and feature tour are also the same.
So what’s going on here? Well, it seems T-Mobile always planned to have just one app for all their services instead of two apps that are very similar. A T-Mobile employee on Reddit said the plan was to combine everything into the T Life app over time.
Right now, the T-Mobile and T Life apps look almost identical after the recent update. When you open them, they look the same and have the same core features. Even how you set them up and see what’s inside is done in the same way through the wizard and tour.
T-Mobile is likely doing this to make things less confusing since the apps were so similar already. Having one app is also probably easier for customers instead of wondering what each app does. Other companies like Verizon already merged all their services into one main app too.
In the future, the T-Mobile employee said the T-Mobile app will go away completely and T Life will be the only app. It makes sense since T Life’s slogan is “one app to rule them all”.
For now, T-Mobile is just making the apps the same during the transition. If you have both apps now, you really only need the T Life app since they do the same thing. T-Mobile may get rid of the other app later on.
