Why AI Still Can’t Make Real Art

Ted Chiang is a famous science fiction writer. He has written great stories that were turned into movies too. Lately, he has been writing articles for magazines about problems with AI.

In his latest article, Ted says that AI still has a long way to go before making real art. Some programs today can generate stories and pictures pretty well. But Ted doesn’t think they will ever make true art.

Art takes a person making lots of choices, Ted explains. When people make art, they are talking to others. The computer programs just copy what they’ve seen before. They don’t really talk to anyone.

Ted thinks true art comes from people living their lives and connecting with each other. AI can’t do that because it’s just a computer following rules. It doesn’t have feelings or experiences like people.

In the end, Ted believes art is about sharing feelings between people. No matter how smart computers get, they will never feel things or connect with others the way we do. That’s why AI won’t be making real art any time soon. Creativity comes from inside us, not from math and rules.
