The Threads platform reached 200 million active users, just a day after Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg mentioned Threads reaching “nearly” 200 million users in the company’s Q2 2024 earnings call. Threads has snowballed since it first started in July 2023.
Adam Mosseri, the head of Instagram, announced on Threads that they had reached the big 200 million user mark. He said “I’m excited to share that we crossed the 200M milestone on @threads. My hope is that Threads can inspire ideas that bring people together and this amazing community continues to grow.”
Threads have been growing fast every few months. In April 2024 it hit 150 million users. Then in July, it reached 175 million users on its first birthday. Now just one month later it’s already at 200 million users!
Some other messaging apps like X, the new name for Twitter, had over 600 million users in May according to Elon Musk who now owns Twitter. Many people stopped using Twitter when Elon Musk changed it in ways people did not like. This helped Threads grow as it offered people another nice place to talk online.
Mark Zuckerberg thinks Threads could one day have over 1 billion users! In the recent earnings call, he said Threads is doing well and growing quickly. Meta is working on making the app even better at suggesting new people to follow and content to see.
