Meta’s X rival Threads announced some new features for their users recently. These include letting people store multiple drafts of posts instead of just one, rearranging the columns on desktop computers, and getting insights into who sees their posts. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg also said the company will soon add a way for people to schedule when their posts go live.
Threads started testing saving multiple drafts in February. This lets people write different versions of a post without losing what they wrote. In March they made it available for everyone to use. Now with the update, people can save up to 100 drafts in their account at a time.
The company also added an Insights page. Here people can see details like the age, gender, and location of those who see and interact with their posts. It also shows the total views and engagements broken down between followers and non-followers.
In May, Threads introduced a desktop view with multiple columns like the one on TweetDeck. This allows pinning things like searches, favorite posts, activity, saved posts, and the profile page. With the new update, people can customize the order of these columns except for “For You”, which always stays on the left.
A test feature on iPhone apps lets some users see posts across multiple separate feeds. However, the company didn’t say if feed ordering will also be customizable. These insights, column customization, and multi-feed testing aim to make the Threads experience more organized and user-friendly.
Threads reached 200 million monthly users in August, just under 13 months since its initial launch. This shows it’s become a popular choice as an alternative to X, which had over 600 million users in May according to Elon Musk. Giving users more options to write, schedule, and see posts should help it grow even more in the competitive social media world.
