Setting Up Your Xfinity WiFi Router

Installing your Xfinity modem is the first step towards a better Wi-Fi signal and a faster and more reliable internet connection, whether you’re setting up a new connection or replacing your router. It can seem complicated to install a modem, but this guide walks you through the process step-by-step.

First, check what’s in your Xfinity starter kit. You need the modem, coax cable, power cord, and paperwork. Read all the instructions before you start.

Find the best spot for your modem. Pick a central place where you use the internet the most, like the living room. Avoid walls shared with neighbors and places with lots of metal. This helps your WiFi signal spread better.

Connect the coax cable from the wall to your modem. Screw it in tightly. Then plug the other end of the cable into your modem. Connect the power cord to your modem and a power outlet. Now turn on your modem – it takes about 20 minutes to start up.

You have two ways to activate your modem – the Xfinity app or website. The app is easy to download and guides you through setup. Or go to Xfinity.com/activate on any device. Follow the instructions to enter info from your modem and set up your WiFi network name and password.

Check your internet speed using speedtest.xfinity.com. This tests how fast your connection is. Finally, change your WiFi password to something hard to guess for better security.
