On Friday, Roblox announced a series of changes coming to the platform in the coming months and years. On top of that, Roblox is introducing a project that will power generative AI creation that will allow creators to earn money through their experiences.
At their yearly conference for creators, called Developers Conference, Roblox shared some exciting updates. First, creators will earn more money from paid experiences. Before, creators got about 25% of the money from experiences players had to pay for. Now they will get a higher cut, up to 70%, depending on how much the experience costs.
Roblox also said creators can sell merchandise directly in their games. Players will be able to buy real merchandise like t-shirts or toys straight from the creators’ experiences. Roblox is testing this feature with some creators later this year.
In other money news, Roblox is making tools to help creators set the best prices. One tool will suggest price changes to maybe get more sales. Another will give advice on pricing experiences differently in other countries.
On the AI front, Roblox said it is working on a system that lets creators make 3D worlds and objects using simple text prompts. This “generative AI” can generate a whole scene like a forest or castle from a short description. It will be free and help more people start making games.
Roblox also detailed upgrades to make experiences work well on all devices and networks. Plus new social features like online parties to hang out with friends across games, in-game forums, and music charts are coming.
All in all, these changes aim to bring more creators and players to Roblox! The platform wants gaming content revenue worldwide to go through Roblox.
