NZXT’s PC Rental Program Under Fire

Gamers Nexus, a YouTube channel focused on PC gaming hardware, published an hour-long video accusing NZXT of bait-and-switch tactics.

NZXT’s Flex program lets people rent gaming PCs at $59 monthly, but there’s a catch – you need to buy your own mouse, keyboard, and monitor. The investigation found some serious issues with how NZXT runs this program.

Some issues with the rental program are that the PC specifications and prices change frequently, sometimes daily, and different hardware specs appear depending on whether you choose to buy or rent. The same performance claims are made for PCs with different graphics cards, and overall, the pricing structure could cost more than buying a PC outright.

NZXT’s Player: Three PCs showed two graphics cards in one example. The “buy” option listed an NVIDIA RTX 4070 Ti Super, while the “rent” option showed a less powerful RTX 4070 Ti. Despite this difference, NZXT claimed both would perform the same in games like Starfield and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare.

Steve Burke, Gamers Nexus’ editor-in-chief, called out this practice, saying it’s particularly misleading for customers who might not understand the technical differences between graphics cards. He specifically pointed out how the word “Super” in the graphics card name might go unnoticed by less tech-savvy customers.

When asked for a comment on this, NZXT hasn’t responded to these allegations, neither through official channels nor social media.
