New Google Maps Update Makes It Easier to Stay in the Right Lane

A small but significant change is coming to Google Maps on Android Auto. It is much easier to read the updated lane guidance UI since it is larger and more spread out. The new design helps you clearly see which lane you need to be in without having to strain your eyes.

Google Maps has always shown you which lane to take when you near your turn or exit. But the old version of Android Auto showed all the lanes too close together. This made it hard to tell the lanes apart, especially when you’re driving. You had to focus more to see the right one. That extra focus could distract you from the road for too long.

Thankfully, Google updated the lane guidance to fix this problem. Now all the lanes are spread farther apart above the directions. This refreshed UI makes each lane much easier to read at a glance. The correct lane is also highlighted so it really pops out. The other lanes are faded back so they don’t confuse you.

The new and improved design started showing up for some users recently. Google plans to roll it out to all Android Auto drivers within the next few days. This small UI change goes a long way to keeping you safe. You’ll be able to quickly know which lane is yours without straining your eyes off the road. Less distraction means you can keep your full attention on the traffic.
