Google Brings Ads to AI Summaries and Rolls Out AI-Organized Search Pages

To improve the relevancy of its Google Search results, the company will begin showing ads in AI Overviews, its AI-generated summaries, and linking to relevant web pages for some of those summaries. In the U.S., it will soon roll out AI-organized search results pages.

Google is adjusting how it uses artificial intelligence (AI) in search. It will start showing advertisements (ads) in the summaries it makes using AI. These summaries are called AI Overviews. It makes these summaries explain search results for certain queries.

Google will also add links to relevant websites in some of the AI Overviews. These links will lead to pages that provide more information on the search topic. In addition, when people in the United States search on their phones, they may soon see search result pages organized by AI. These pages will include different types of content like articles, videos, and forum posts about certain topics like recipes.

The changes aim to keep users searching on Google. Other AI companies like ChatGPT and Perplexity can answer questions, so Google wants to enhance its search experience. However, critics say AI Overviews don’t always know if information is true or not. Google is working to improve this.
