In response to initial queries on Brave Search, Brave introduced an AI chat mode on Thursday. The company launched “Answer with AI” summaries earlier this year, which appear above search results to give you an easy-to-read answer. You can now ask follow-up questions regarding your initial query in the Answer with AI summaries.
This new feature allows you to have a conversation with Brave’s AI assistant, rather than starting a completely new search. So if you search for “Christopher Nolan films,” you’ll get an overview, and then can ask follow-up questions like “Which actors appear most in his films?” The AI will provide answers and sources along the way.
This conversational search experience is not available on Google, the world’s largest search engine. While Google does have “AI Overviews” similar to Brave’s “Answer with AI,” you can’t ask additional questions – you have to start a new search.
Brave’s AI chat is powered by a combination of open and internal language models. This brings together the strengths of search engines (fetching information, images, links) and AI chatbots (exploring topics through related questions).
The best part? Your conversations with Brave’s AI remain private, as the company does not store your queries or create user profiles. Brave Search serves over 36 million queries per day, and the Answer with AI tool generates more than 11 million answers daily.
