All you have to do to receive a file through Quick Share is go to your Quick Settings, tap on the Quick Share tile, select everyone, and hit Done. If that seems like a lot of steps to you, then you’ll be glad to know that a new floating action button (FAB) will streamline the process in Files by Google, at least.
If you open Files by Google, you may now spot a round “Receive” FAB sitting below the existing scan button. Tap it to instantly make your phone visible for Quick Share file receives from nearby devices. Previously, doing this took a few menu selections in settings.
The new button promises to slash the steps down to a single click. It’ll warn that your phone is now share-receivable before prompting you to accept incoming files. This saves the hassle of toggling between apps and menus when someone needs to hand you a file pronto.
The Receive FAB is part of the updated Files app version 1.4955.677425801.0 release. Force stop the app or update if you don’t see it yet. Though Google is likely still rolling it out fully. More file app fixes may also arrive as spotted code tweaks layouts for large screens.
Overall, the new button brings the convenience of on-the-go file passes to your fingertips with only a quick press. Downloading shared items from peers gets even simpler with Files by Google’s streamlined receiving shortcut.
