2024 will surely be remembered as the year giant tech companies rushed to build AI chatbots. Google Gemini and ChatGPT are currently leading, but Meta has slowly added its bot to Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp—making it very easy to use.
WhatsApp is now testing a new voice note feature when chatting with Meta AI. Before this, you could only type or send photos to the bot. Now some beta users can speak to Meta AI instead of typing everything out.
When the update is fully released, sending voice messages to Meta AI will work just like voice chatting with friends. While the languages supported aren’t clear, Meta will want to prioritize regional languages since WhatsApp is so popular in Asia.
It remains unseen if Meta AI will reply with voice or keep responding through text. Having it understand and answer voice notes would make conversing more natural. Or it may stay as a basic assistant for searches and recommendations instead of full conversations.
The voice feature is being gradually introduced to more testers. Soon most WhatsApp users will be able to easily talk to Meta’s AI without typing—making interactions quicker and simpler than before.
