Chat With Gemini in Gmail to Find Emails Fast

Google announced this week that select Gmail users on iOS will be able to chat with the Gemini chatbot directly within the app about their inbox. In August, Google first rolled out Gmail Q&A for Android users. Now iOS users can ask Gemini questions too if they have a Google One subscription or Workspace account with certain add-ons.

Gemini lets you ask specific questions like “How much did we spend on the last marketing event?” It can show unread emails from a contact or summarize messages about a topic. For example, say “Tell me about the emails for quarterly planning.” Gemini searches your inbox and finds the answers.

Right now it only looks at your emails, but Google plans to have it search other files like Docs too in the future. A new Gemini button will appear next to the search bar in Gmail. Clicking this lets you chat with the bot instead of searching the traditional way.

Not all free Gmail users can use Gemini yet. Only those paying for Google services get early access. Google wants more people to upgrade so they can earn money from Gemini.

Like other tech giants, Google is adding artificial intelligence to apps like Docs, Calendar and now Gmail. This update comes after Gmail recently got improved “summary cards” to help organize your inbox better.

Apple also made big changes to its Mail app. So Google needs to keep improving Gmail so people keep choosing it over options like iCloud Mail. Now iOS users can chat with Gemini and find emails more easily right in the Gmail app on their iPhones too.
