Adaptive Touch Launches on Pixel 9 and It Works Quite Well

Less than two weeks after the Google Pixel 9 series launched, we’re still finding out new things about the phones. Since the Made by Google keynote lasted about an hour and twenty minutes, twenty minutes of that time were spent on Google’s AI services rather than the new hardware, this isn’t surprising. While we thought we knew everything about the Pixel 9’s display, it turns out it still has one more trick up its sleeve: Adaptive Touch.

Tucked away in the Settings menu is a feature called Adaptive Touch. When turned on, it automatically adjusts the Pixel 9’s touch sensitivity based on its environment and activities. For example, it boosts sensitivity when fingers are wet or with a screen protector applied.

Comparing the Pixel 9 to the older Pixel 8 Pro, the new phone works much better with wet fingers. On the 9, scrolling with wet digits looks smooth. But the 8 Pro sees jumps and pans in that scenario.

The handy Adaptive Touch works out of the box, so no need to enable it. Reporters haven’t found a reason to turn it off either. For a smoother display experience in any conditions, try out the Pixel 9’s nifty Adaptive Touch feature.
