WhatsApp to Let You Edit Contacts From Any Linked Device

With WhatsApp, you can simultaneously use the messaging app on two or more devices. This is great for users who have separate work and home phones or use the app on a PC or tablet. However, there is one annoying limitation to this feature. The app doesn’t allow you to save new contacts on secondary devices, so you must use your primary phone to add or manage contacts. In a future update, WhatsApp plans to change this.

According to a recent blog post, WhatsApp said it will soon allow users to add and edit contacts from WhatsApp Web and computers running Windows. This means you can manage your contacts without needing your phone. The app will also allow people to save contacts only to WhatsApp. This helps keep work contacts separate from personal ones when using multiple WhatsApp accounts. WhatsApp aims to bring this feature to other linked devices soon too, but did not give a date.

WhatsApp confirmed it is working on adding usernames as well. This will allow messaging someone without sharing your phone number, improving privacy. While details are still unknown, reports say WhatsApp may let usernames be secured with PIN codes to prevent unknown contacts from messaging. Both usernames and better-linked device support are in development and will roll out in future app updates.

In short, WhatsApp is removing the annoying limitation that restricts contact management to the main phone. The update will enhance the experience of using multiple linked devices with WhatsApp across different situations.
