There is no doubt that YouTube Premium is one of the most controversial paid versions of a streaming service. Since it offers free access to almost everything – if you’re willing to watch some ads – it’s unlike most of the rest out there. And that’s often a lot of ads. As Google confirmed, it’s brought back Premium Lite for some new testing in an effort to give viewers a way to remove those ads without requiring a full-blown Premium subscription.
YouTube Premium Lite is back from the dead after being cancelled last year. Google is now testing Lite in Australia, Germany, and Thailand.
Premium Lite was cheaper than Premium but just removed ads without extra bonuses. For some users, this lighter option was perfect.
It’s unclear why Google changed its mind or how long Lite will run this time. Hopefully, it will come to more countries soon, and possibly the US too!
Only time will tell what YouTube decides about its affordable no-ad plan’s lasting place. But revived testing proves budget viewers weren’t forgotten.
