Google Chat Now Lets You Send Video Messages

Google Chat is now offering video messaging to eligible users. Several popular messaging apps, including WhatsApp, already offer this feature, which aims to make connections between users more personal. However, Google Chat’s new video messages come with some limitations for now.

The rollout of video chats through Chat messages has begun. For the time being, only web users can record and send videos, though phone users can view any received. Videos are also capped at 3 minutes maximum to prevent lengthy recordings.

Google is staggering the release, so wait up to two weeks if it hasn’t hit your account yet. You also need a paid Google Workspace plan. Once available, start recording a video message by tapping the record icon next to send.

While adding videos enhances Chat, restrictions apply for now. Recording is web-only with no mobile support. Plus, ChromeOS and Firefox users miss out completely. Hopefully, Google will expand its choices over time.

Still, even with catches, video messages bring Chat interactivity closer to top apps. More personal touches could up appeal versus plain texts. We’ll see if client tweaks come or if this remains a limited launch. For now, web users may find new ways to connect on Google’s messenger.
