According to YouTube, YouTube Shorts, the company’s answer to TikTok, has been updated with longer video lengths. YouTube is now letting people make their Shorts videos up to 3 minutes long. Before, all Shorts had to be under 1 minute.
YouTube is also adding new features to make it easier for creators to make Shorts. Creators will soon have the option to “remix” other videos. This means they can use the style and editing of another video they like as a starting point for their own. They just click “remix” and then can add or change clips to make it their own. Instagram and TikTok have similar features.
YouTube wants more people to make Shorts because they want to compete with TikTok. To help, YouTube is paying creators extra money to make Shorts. They are also adding a new setting where you can see “less Shorts” if you don’t want them taking over your home page.
Even though YouTube Shorts are now longer, TikTok videos can still be up to 10 minutes. Both apps keep increasing time limits as more people want to share longer videos. YouTube and TikTok also added ways to easily copy styles from popular videos. This helps trends spread fast but makes some videos feel very similar.
